I have been building a weather satellite receiver, hoping to receive some images.
So far, I have successfully built an antenna, and have received several NOAA satellites as they orbit overhead. My aerial is a simple crossed dipole, made from heavy guage mains cable, and utilising a head amplifier from a buchered TV satellite LNB, which has (astonishingly) some gain even 600MHz off its peak performance…
Here is a picture of my antenna, although it has been outside for 6 months and no longer works because someone ripped the head amp off it by pulling on the coax…
The next challenge will be to demodulate the 2.4kHz carrier signal, and attempt to display the image data…
If I can get any decent images, I will build a proper aerial, probably a Quadrifilar helix
